Modern Square Dancing

A New American Tradition

All Dances Have Been Canceled

After serious consideration, the Yellowstone Square Dance Council (YSDC) is suspending immediately the upcoming scheduled dances until further notice.  This includes the Saturday Night Plus Group, Checkerboard Squares, Advanced Workshop, Silhouettes, and ContraDance Billings. This also includes the Spring Dance scheduled for this coming weekend, March 21st.  This suspension is consistent with most area square dance groups throughout the Western United States from Montana to Arizona.

We regret this development but the health and safety of all the area dancers is of the utmost importance.  The COVID 19 out-break has unknown risks that have caused the nation and many states to declare a “state of emergency” that includes the cancellation of many large and seemingly important events and even public school closures.

We will continue to monitor the health situation and will be in touch as soon as it appears appropriate to resume our dance schedule.

We thank you for your support and look forward to your continued support when we are able to gather for this great activity that we treasure and enjoy.  We hope you understand this decision.

Billings Montana is home of the Yellowstone Square Dance Council. Currently, 5 area clubs offer various levels of square, round, and contra dancing. Many of the clubs dance at Cedar Hall at the MetraPark fairgrounds. All clubs are open and we welcome visitors to attend any of the club dances which are normally held on a weekly basis  from October through April. Four of the clubs dance either Mainstream, Plus, or Advanced. One club is devoted to Round dancing and another club is Contra dancing.

Beginner Sessions usually start in October for those people who want to enjoy the benefits of square dancing. Any single or couple are encouraged to attend a session.

The Council also sponsors the New Years Eve Dance, and the Magic City Hoedown every year. The Callers and Cuers Association sponsors a Christmas dance. Each club also sponsors special dances and visiting national callers will call and cue dances during the summer.
